My 48,000 mile 2004 2.7D Sport manual ZF 6-speed is 'tricky' when cold - reverse gear especially (I have to reverse of the drive before I can go forward).
As soon as it starts to warm up the box is lovely - it's just a bit notchy when cold.
I've read that these ZF manual units are 'sealed for life' - is this true?
1 post here mentions Slick 50 (gearbox?) - is this a realistic option, does anyone have any opinion?
Should I consider changing the gearbox oil? - if so, what with? (brand / spec), and should I consider any additive too?
Or am I being too critical and the box will loosen nicely over time?
Please let's not start an 'autos vs manuals' thread!
